"Gavels down, people. You too, Justice Scalia!"

In an upcoming interview with Katie Couric to be aired this week, Sarah Palin is unable to name any Supreme Court Case other than Roe v. Wade.

The Rules: Post info about ONE Supreme Court decision, modern or historic, to your lj. (Any decision, as long as it's not Roe v. Wade.) FListers, please take the meme to your ElJay to spread the fun.

First off: I had no idea there were so many interesting United States Supreme Court cases.

Second off: After much deliberation...I choose you, New York Times Co. v. Sullivan! It established the "actual malice" standard for libel, in which you can only consider a statement libel (and thus sue) if the statement was made with "reckless disregard of whether it was false or not". It also ended up saving Mike Wallace's butt early on in his career (see Westmoreland v. CBS).
